Recommendations: TOP Gamesites and Game Portals
Our recommendations for the BEST gamesites online are right across the top:
iWin
PopCap
Realnetworks
Shockwave
Wildgames
Worldwinner
These are the major game producers. They hire game and graphics programmers and buy licenses for the latest games from independent game developers. They don't bother offering the stupid old games everyone else has.
Since there are thousands of websites offering games, it helps to know where you can play games safely and be assured a FUN gaming experience. There are so many game websites that are full of pop-up ads and some harm your PC by downloading spyware to throw ads at you at will. Be careful!
Some other game websites are:
Yahoo! has games, of course. Not unique games, but many of the most popular games. They have an on-line free version that is presented in a mini-window but gives you the idea how to play. I had to squint. Of course, you can purchase the game and get the full versions, but isn't it better to get your games directly from the game developers above?
Comcast, my cable provider, has also joined the gaming industry and improved it with their purchase of "Chill". It's much like Yahoo with ads that pay Comcast "more money". (Don't they have enough?) I'd rather pay the game developers; they deserve it.
CandyStand is the Wrigley gamesite and it's rather cool. Each game is specially designed to feature their gums and candies in their graphics. I play there too. It's free.
There are games for kids, "adult only" games, political games, and a huge list of free javascript and flash games that virtually anyone can get and load on their website (including those I offer here, actually). But the best games are the ones presented by the game producers above. Add the new MMORPG virtual reality games, WII, and the rest, and you can see "Why, It's a Computer Game Revolution!".

VIDEO Games and Computer Games
Since the early '80's, we have played video games on TV's and a variety of game consoles. Today, there are all kinds of computer games and consoles. Games are played on PC's, handheld computers, and mobile phones, and more devices are yet to come. "Reality" games use sensor sets and visual goggle creating a whole simulated environment. Some games use specific devices like driving wheels, or dance pads - the latest craze (and GOOD EXERCISE too!)
In video gaming, a "complex" environment can be created to make a more realistic gaming experience with input devices, like dance pads. With most video games, it helps to have the manual dexterity for game controls for speed, jumps, and other functions with button sequences and timing. Without these skills you cannot work your way through the multiple levels of the games in the Video Gaming Market.
PC Games vs. On-line Games What is the Difference?
It is a PC Game if you are asked to "download" a file, which installs and creates a new program on your PC. It will play from your PC even when you are not connected to the Internet.
If a game is served up, or displayed for you on a website, or gamesite, when you are on-line, then you would be playing an on-line game. They actually run a script that manages your PC controls and runs as a plug-in for your default browser. Everything seems to work with Microsoft's browser, but gamers with other browsers may have a problem. Please review the "PC Gamers Technical Notes", if you are concerned about running games on your PC.

Game play is so popular that DIGG has a catagory called WEB GAMES that I decided to share here. Watch out though; some games here may not meet CoolGamePlace's high standards of a safe game experience.
