VISTA, or NOT?
There are several reasons why I think most people should NOT upgrade their PC's to the new Windows operating system, VISTA.
Most PC's will need a major memory upgrade to bring their total memory (RAM) to 2 gigabytes. That's a LOT of memory, Folks. While 1 Gb is recommended for Vista alone, if you want to run Microsoft Office 2007, you will need 2 Gb!
As an old programmer that had limited memory resources to work with, I can tell you that software can be written to use memory more efficiently with very little effort. What Microsoft has done with their newest software is not funny. They are MAKING you buy a new PC, or drastically upgrading your old PC's to have this huge memory available before you can run the tools you need.
If you have a PC that you bought before last Christmas, and it wasn't VISTA-ready, plan on keeping your XP running for a few more years.
Of course, most new PC's with VISTA pre-loaded will have the huge RAM requirements built-in for you. If not, you SHOULD get it added right away. And you can avoid the hassle of upgrading. Go ahead and get those new PC's if you need to, just be sure you get 2GB or more of internal memory.
Or get a Mac, but be sure that your DUO-Core Processor Windows OS is XP, or you are in even MORE trouble. See the MAC deals here.
